About the Photographer.

Alex Wedemeyer is a Southern California native. He did undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley and graduate studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since 2002, he has been on a visual and experential odyssey through the United States, Europe, the Caribbean and Africa, photographing the images featured on OneHundredImages.com.

Photographer's Artistic Statement.

Two aesthetics especially compel me: the extraordinarily beautiful and the extraordinarily interesting. When they meet in a single shot, that is a shot to keep and to share. Of course these ideas are largely arbitrary: one person's quotidian is the next's spectacular. To make work that appeals to different people for different reasons, but which speaks at a timbre that evokes shared enthusiasm: this is for me a compelling approach to the universal.
