"The Battery"

Photographed in Manhattan in May of 2005.
The southern tip of New York City's downtown area references an era before the city evolved into the field of skyscrapers it became in the 20th Century. Castle Clinton, in the Battery area, has a vibrant history. Built as a fort around 1811, it evolved into a theater and later functioned as an immigration center.
