in Germany in June of 2003. At the end of Berlin's commercial thoroughfair known
as the Kurfürstendamm stands what remains of the belfry of the Kaiser Wilhelm
Memorial Church, once one of the stateliest in Germany but largely destroyed in
World War II. The ruin pointedly evokes the war's devastation.
