"Paestum"

Photographed in Italy in June of 2003. The Campania region has a rich and varied history of settlement. In the first millennium AD, it was settled by Greeks as well as Romans, the latter of which eventually prevailed. The Roman city of Paestum was known previously to the Greeks as Poseidonia; there they built imposing temples recognizable by their large columns.
